Crystal Palace’s upcoming pre-season tour to the USA has created plenty of excitement across the pond, and none more so than in Virginia – a state that is now preparing to host an English Premier League for the first time ever.
The Eagles touch down in the Old Dominion State as the last stop on next month’s eagerly anticipated American tour, ahead of a clash with its capital city side, the Richmond Kickers.
That match with the USL PRO club at the City Stadium on Monday 28th July follows friendlies against Columbus Crew and the Philadelphia Union during a nine day Stateside stay.
But despite Virginia being Palace’s final destination, the state is already looking forward to hosting Tony Pulis’ men and the travelling red and blue army in seven weeks’ time.
Matthew Robinette, director of convention and sports services at Visit Richmond, said: “The Richmond region has a thriving soccer community and we are proud of the teams that call the region home. From youth to professional, we embrace the values that soccer promotes.
“With the FIFA World Cup event on our doorsteps the region is excited to host several soccer events. None more so than the English Premier League team from London, England, Crystal Palace Football Club.
“This friendly match will be a test for both teams and an excellent gauge of upcoming talent. The Kickers are ready, Crystal Palace is ready, and the Richmond Region is ready!
“The Richmond region looks forward to hosting this international side and showing these athletes everything that makes our region great!”
Richmond was named as one of Frommer’s Top Destinations for 2014, alongside cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Palm Springs in California, Bali and Taiwan, so there will be plenty for Eagles fans to see and do if they follow their team to America.
