The first green shoots of Crystal Palace Football Club's new playing surface will begin to sprout early next week after seed was laid across Selhurst Park.
The final 25mm of fibresand was spread and incorporated on the surface earlier this week following the completion of the new under soil heating works, which have been brought in to meet new Barclays Premier League regulations for the 2014/15 season.
Now that the seed has been sown, regular watering is now key to ensure that the seedbed is constantly damp - conditions required in order for the seed to germinate.
Crystal Palace's head groundsman Gareth Read is confident that this will allow for the first flutterings of green to appear on the new surface in SE25 by Monday or Tuesday next week.
But even though the pitch is now nearing completion, the work inside Selhurst Park is far from over.
Work will now begin on the new surrounds, with a new polymeric surface set to be constructed around the edge of the pitch ahead of our first home game of the season against West Ham United on Saturday 23rd August.
