Former Crystal Palace defender Jose Fonte says he is looking forward to returning to Selhurst Park with Southampton this afternoon.
Fonte joined the Eagles from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2007 and spent almost three years in south London.
The centre back (pictured above during his Palace days) clocked up almost 100 appearances in red blue before moving to the Saints – who were then in League One – in January 2010.
But despite leaving the club, Fonte admits he has fond memories of his time at the Palace and is relishing the opportunity to play on his old stomping ground today.
He told saintsfc.co.uk: “It’s the first club I played for when I came to England and I was very happy there.
“I have some very good memories of the club, so it will be a happy return for me where it will be good to see some old friends again.
“It’s a special atmosphere there and the stadium is very old as well because it’s a traditional English club stadium. The fans are great, I know them very well.”
But there will be no room for sentiment from Fonte today, as he aims to help Southampton end a run of three straight defeats in all competitions.
“It’s something that we are focused to do because we are disappointed with the last game against Liverpool,” he said.
“We need to get back on track and that means going to Crystal Palace and getting the three points that we need.”
