Tony Pulis described the match at Sunderland as one that they must finish with something to show for their efforts and so it proved as a solid defensive performance gave the visitors a share of the points.

“This was a must not lose game for us, in the last two away games we have picked up a point at each, we haven’t got the quality that other clubs have got but we have a game plan and we have to work to that. This group of players have got big hearts and work very hard for each other .

“We had a number of players out there today who have never played at the Stadium Of Light before and it was a difficult atmosphere as their support was great and they really got behind their team. We defended as a team really well with everyone doing their job for each other and having just looked at the chance that fell to KG at the end we probably missed the best opportunity of the game."

Asked post match where this 0-0 draw leaves his side the manager said it was all about having the right attitude in a very congested bottom half of the table.

"I have been in this game a long time and I know how quick it can change both for and against you, it is important the players and staff keep very level headed.”
