Crystal Palace winger Tom Ince starred in England Under-21s 3-1 victory over Wales last night as they moved to within touching distance of qualifying for the play-offs to reach the European Championship.
Ince played 79 minutes of the victory at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium, which took Gareth Southgate’s young Lions to 22 points from their eight matches.
A classy hat-trick from Norwich City man Nathan Redmond made the difference on Monday night, after Gwion Edwards briefly brought Wales level when he headed in from a corner after 20 minutes.
The result means that if second-placed Moldova fail to win in Finland on 1st June then England will advance from Group One.
The 10 group winners and four best runners-up will be paired off in two-legged play-offs to determine the seven sides that will join tournament hosts the Czech Republic in the finals in June 2015.
England’s starlets can now turn their attention to a trip to France though, where they face Brazil, Qatar, Korea and Colombia in Group B of the Toulon Tournament.
The Young Lions begin their campaign against Qatar on Tuesday 22nd May, although Ince will not be a part of Southgate’s squad for that tournament.
