Delaney: Keep Selhurst A Fortress

3 October 2014

Since our return to the Premier League our supporters have received great acclaim for their magnificent support and on October 18th it will be those making the journey over from west London who will be getting a taste of ‘Fortress Selhurst’ when Chelsea come to town.

Defender Damien Delaney knows the impact that the special atmosphere of SE25 will have on the league leaders even before they enter the pitch.

“Off the pitch, we know as a group of players, when we head down the tunnel the visiting team are left in no doubt that they are entering a special atmosphere.

“We are totally committed to making sure our own back yard becomes a real fortress, we come out of our dressing rooms and into a tight corridor to line up with the opposition and then both teams walk out through the tunnel and the whole stadium is absolutely rocking before a ball has even been kicked.

“I know how intimidating that must sound for the away side and credit is due to the great job our fans do every week to get the noise to those levels. Our supporters play a crucial part for us at Selhurst and will continue to do so. Looking back over the last year we have had some great results at home and the vocal support has certainly played its part and I know they will continue to do so in the future.”

Delaney has said that the important thing is that the fans inside Selhurst back the team whatever is happening out on the pitch and that’s what gives SE25 the edge over other stadiums.

“Our fans set Selhurst alight win, lose or draw and that is the important thing because it is easy to show your support when your team are winning 2-0 but there are times I can think of where things haven’t been going as well and they don’t stop and always make everyone know that they are on our own patch.”
