Puncheon: Glenn Is In Unbelievable Form

7 April 2015

Jason Puncheon's free kick extended the advantage with a perfect set piece from 25 yards out but was quick post match to point out that the win against Manchester City was a real team effort on and off the pitch.

"These night games always create a special atmosphere and tonight was no different but the most important thing is that we won the game and that we did with a well-earned victory against a very good side.

"It is always good from a personal point of view to contribute and even though I got the goal I didn’t think I was on top of my game out there but at the end of the night the club has three more points and that it is what we managed to get."

Glenn Murray has now netted five goals in the past five games and Jason is full of admiration of what the striker has achieved in the top flight.

"Glenn is in unbelievable form and it is great credit to him, he came through the Championship and didn’t really get a chance at this level but is now getting that opportunity and really taking it. I thought he was superb in this game and goes out there and does exactly what is asked of him and his record in recent games shows the type of form he is in."

The media coverage post match centred around decisions that were major talking points in the 90 minutes of tense action but Jason was quick to point out that in games at this level there are always incidents that can go for and and against you.

"Games always have these type of talking points, the ball skipped up off the ground onto Glenn and in those situations it is difficult to get out of the way and there are are probably other incidents that we can look back on but as always sometimes they go your way and other times they don’t but tonight we did more than enough to deserve the victory."

Alan Pardew has now guided the club close to safety in the top flight and Jason is quick to point out one of the things that he has introduced into the team.

"The gaffer has given us belief that we can compete at this level and play in the way we have been doing. We are always there working hard for each other and making sure that we battle for the points as a group and we showed that in this game. We have got three important results under our belts in recent weeks and other teams can see what we are about."
