It was great to get such a convincing victory against Newcastle United last time we were here at Selhurst Park.
It was a big game considering the result against Sunderland but we knew we had a good chance to rectify things with another home game against a team who were struggling.
We also knew we had to be at it and even after going a goal down we never really felt out of control of the game. We dominated long periods of it and thoroughly deserved the win. It’s always nice to be on the right end of a 5-1 scoreline and I think that was very pleasing for everybody.
That meant we travelled to Everton on a high and from a personal level it was very nice to get a starting role and play the full 90 minutes in what was a very tight game, and I’m pleased at being able to contribute.
It was a great point for us. They’re a team on form, playing with a lot of confidence and will be very hard to beat at Goodison Park, so it was good to see that we rolled our sleeves up. Although they had a few more chances than us, we had a bit of luck plus our own opportunities to win the game as well.
Today sees the start of the Christmas fixtures and it’s something I always look forward to. The games come thick and fast and it’s all about staying mentally and physically ready to play your part, as the number of matches means there will be some rotation.
It’s a squad game and although some of the boys haven’t had too much playing time recently, I know being around them that they’ll be ready. All the boys are training hard and looking in good shape so whoever is called upon over the next few weeks, they will give it their all.
This is always labelled as a crucial part of the season and I go along with that. After today’s game we will have three games in the space of a week, so nine points will be up for grabs in a short timeframe, and with the way things have been going this season that’s huge.
If you can pick up a couple of wins in that time you’ll shoot right up the table in the current climate so that’s a big carrot for us at the end of this period, and we’ll be looking to push forward during that time and get some good results and produce the performances that go with them.
The FA Cup draw has put us with Southampton again which could help us as we’re both in the Premier League so we’ll be undertaking good analysis on each other, but we’ve got plenty of games before that cup tie and there will be a lot more to focus on. There are too many things around the corner for us at the moment so we’ll just have to take one game at a time and see where that gets us.
Have a great Christmas and I hope we can bring you plenty to cheer over the coming weeks!
