Connor Wickham has received high praise from manager Alan Pardew, who has been delighted with the summer signing's recent contributions on the pitch for Palace.
Speaking during his pre-Southampton press conference, Pardew admitted he was not worried by Wickham not scoring, due to the incredible influence the striker has demonstrated in his two most recent appearances in red and blue.
"He's only played two games and I think he's done really well in them," he said.
"I look at him in training and - he hasn't scored yet but that doesn't bother me - I've worked with enough strikers to know he's going to score goals and the rest of his game is coming together.
"I'm really pleased with what he does for us. He'll be influential tomorrow, even if he doesn't score. He affects the opposition and he's done that really well in the last two games."
Wickham was man of the match in the 5-1 win against Newcastle United, despite not notching, directly contributing to three of the Eagles' five goals during the rout. Similarly, he worked the Everton backline tirelessly on Monday evening, at one point holding the ball up under pressure from four defenders before finding a teammate with a neat pass.
