Appiah Wins A Final Place

6 February 2015

A place in the final was secured by Ghana in a match that was marred by crowd trouble as they took the honours in this African Cup Of Nations contest against Equatorial Guinea.

Kwesi Appiah played the full 90 minutes in a comfortable victory and had a hand in two of the goals. Just before the interval he won a penalty after being fouled by goalkeeper, Felipe Ovono.

Jordan Ayew slotted home the spot kick and it was not long before the lead was increased with Wakaso Mubarak firing home from close range.

Appiah was then involved in the third goal on 75 minutes as he did well to draw the goalkeeper out and then found Andre Ayew, who had an easy chance to finish for a third.

With Ghana’s passage through to the final confirmed Equatorial Guinea's fans' started throwing missiles that meant rival fans had to seek shelter on the pitch around eight minutes from the end of normal time.

After more than half an hour's interruption in play the match got back underway, but there was only three minutes remaining before the referee blew the final whistle.

Ghana took their place in Sunday's final against Ivory Coast but unfortunately the night will be remembered for what happened off the pitch rather than on it.
