Jack Hunt also made his debut for the club after signing a loan deal until the end of the season last week, coming on in the 60th minute. The 1-1 result saw Rotherham climb to 20th in the Championship table, three points ahead of the relegation zone.
Lewis Price's Crawley Town won their first game since November as they beat play-off hopefuls Preston North End 2-1. The goalkeeper made his eighth appearance for the Red Devils as they clinched a much-needed result to climb off the foot of the League One table.
Elsewhere in the division Peter Ramage returned to the Barnsley side to help the Tykes to a 2-1 win against Port Vale. The centre-back had been out with injury but he played the full game as they recorded their first win in three games, and Stephen Dobbie played the final six minutes of Fleetwood Town's 2-0 defeat to table-topping Bristol City.
A late penalty from Shaquile Coulthirst gave Jerome Binnom-Williams' Southend United a 1-0 victory against York City to record their third straight win and move the Shrimpers just three points away from an automatic promotion place.
There wasn't such luck though for Jake Gray who saw Cheltenham Town go down to a 3-1 defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday. The teenage winger played the whole game but couldn't prevent his side from sliding to a defeat which leaves them 21st in the division.
Sullay Kaikai also tasted defeat as his Cambridge United side lost 3-2 to Luton Town, with the midfielder substituted at half-time.
In non-league, Ghassimu Sow played 71 minutes for Farnborough Town as they were beaten 2-0 at Sutton United in the Conference South, which leaves them second from bottom in the league standings.
