Speroni: Really Pleasing Performance

8 February 2015

A close range header from Joe Ledley gave the points to Palace in Saturday’s trip to Leicester but at the other end the performance of Julian Speroni also played its part so that maximum points went to the visitors. The ‘keeper spoke after about the importance of the victory in a game many were calling a six-pointer.

“A really pleasing performance and not only was it important that we kept a clean sheet but at the other end we got the all important goal to win the match. A really key three points for us in a game like this and everyone could see how much each team wanted the result so to come away with a good result is a big boost for our squad.”

Even though Julian was called upon to make some crucial saves, as always, the 35 year old was quick to give the plaudits to his team mates.

“It’s pleasing when you make some saves that help to get the result but I just have to do my job and stay big and with the help of the team we kept them out. It’s not just about me we have to rely on others being there to make the clearances when needed and make sure we get the clean sheet.”

Points on the road are always crucial and the side can now look back on two back to back Premier League wins but Julian is quick to point out how crucial the level of performance is each week, home or away.

“Every game is going to be important from now until the end of the season but to get an away win at one of the teams around you in the table is extra special. We know that there is still a long way to go and we must keep that same level of performance up going into each game.

“We need to take one game at a time, I know it is an old cliché, but that is what we must do as every game is crucial so we can all get this club where we want it to be come next season.

“The hard work and the confidence is always there but when you get that win it gives everyone a lift. We know as a group of players that we can go anywhere and have the right attitude to do our utmost to get the result we all want.”
