Appiah's Ghana Sunk By Late Goal

19 January 2015

Kwesi Appiah's Ghana were beaten 2-1 by Senegal in their opening Africa Cup of Nations game thanks to a last minute goal.

The Palace striker is still awaiting his first international cap after being an unused sub in the Teranga Lions' opening game, which saw them lead after 14 minutes when Andre Ayew scored from the penalty spot.

That was the game stayed until just before the hour mark when Stoke City striker Mame Biram Diouf equalised, but there was a late blow for Appiah's side when Moussa Sow tucked the ball home with virtually the last kick of the game.

Next up for Ghana is a game on Friday against tournament favourites Algeria, who in Group C's other match came from behind to beat South Africa 3-1.

Palace's next involvement in the competition will come a day earlier when Yannick Bolasie's Democratic Republic of Congo take on Cape Verde in their second group game, after drawing 1-1 with Zambia on Sunday.
