Loan Round-Up: Kaikai Signs Off With Win

5 January 2015

Sullay Kaikai ended his month-long stint at Cambridge United by helping them squeeze into the FA Cup fourth round by beating Luton Town 2-1.

The teenage winger played the final minutes of the U’s third round win against Luton Town in what was his eighth appearance in a hectic period, and he scored once to send his side into the third round at Mansfield’s expense.

Cambridge advance into the fourth round draw after beating the Hatters on the weekend without the goalscoring exploits of Kwesi Appiah, who is part of Ghana’s preliminary squad for the African Cup of Nations. His loan spell at the Abbey Stadium comes to an end next week.

Meanwhile there was bad news for Peter Ramage’s Barnsley who were eliminated from the cup after being beaten 2-0 by Championship side Middlesbrough. Ramage, who signed a season-long extension to his deal at Oakwell last week, played the full 90 minutes which was his 16th appearance of the season.

Ryan Inniss missed out on facing Manchester United in Yeovil Town colours as he was an unused substitute as the Glovers were beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils thanks to goals from Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria.

Back in league action and Stephen Dobbie’s Fleetwood Town missed out on the opportunity to creep closer to the play-off places after they let a two goal lead slip to league leaders Swindon Town. That was the Scot’s 21st appearance for the Fisherman, who occupy 12th position in the table but just two points behind sixth-placed Sheffield United.

Jerome Binnom-Williams was an unused substitute for Southend United in their 1-1 draw with Northampton Town in League Two, having missed the previous three games through suspension after being dismissed against Wycombe Wanderers last month. That point leaves the Shrimpers in sixth position, still pushing for a promotion place.
