The club's membership schemes have some great new benefits for season 15/16 and we are delighted to announce that Palace supporters all around the world are now joining to be part of the red and blue army.
The 500th member to join for the season ahead is a Palace fan based in Los Angeles, Giancarlo Gutierrez. Our membership office were delighted to receive the application from across the pond and one of our team immediately called Giancarlo to inform him that he was the 500th to sign up and find out some more about following Palace stateside.
1. What made you become a Palace fan?
In the autumn of 2013, one of my best friends (an Arsenal fan) and I took the opportunity to take a "tour" of English football. We took in five games, at five different grounds over our trip, and no place or fan base was like Crystal Palace. We went to West Ham, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Man United, and none of those places made me feel more welcomed than the fans and atmosphere at Selhurst Park.
Before and after every game on our trip, we made it a point to find a local pub to meet and chat with the local supporters. In South London, we found a pub called the Prince George on the High Street near the stadium and the fans took us in like one of their own family. They gave us a brief history of the club, taught us "Glad All Over" and even gave me my first Palace scarf. By the end of our time at the pub, I rushed up to the box office to become a member. Once inside, the fans around our seats made an effort to teach us more songs and chants and regardless of the result that night, I became a committed CPFC fan.
2. Favourite ever Palace player and why?
Julian Speroni - us keepers are a rare breed and we need to stick together.
3. What was the first Palace game you watched and where did you watch it?
The first time Palace caught my eye was during the 2013 play-off final against Watford. I was at a local bar and it was on, but I didn't have an emotional connection to the result; so I consider my first Palace experience to have taken place at Selhurst Park on 21/10/13 against Fulham. Bad result, but a great experience.
4. As an International fan, where do you watch the Palace games?
Needless to say, living in Los Angeles, CA makes public viewing of Palace matches difficult, so I usually have to watch them at a local pub but I really enjoy when I'm in NYC to watch games with the NY Eagles supporters group at the Football Factory NY. We're the loudest supporters of all the fans there and the NY Eagles have created a great atmosphere to watch the games.
5. Are you planning to visit Selhurst Park in the new season ?
Absolutely! My goal is to make it to one live Palace match a year.
6. What made you decide to join as a CPFC Gold Member this year?
Besides the opportunity to continue to support the club, I'll enjoy the additional perks that the Gold membership offers.
