Pardew: We're Ready For The Next Challenge

8 June 2015

Eagles manager Alan Pardew has praised the work of his players during the second half of last season, which saw Palace surge from the relegation zone into the top ten of the Premier League.

Pardew revealed, whilst talking to Kevin Day at the club's Awards Night last month, that former boss Tony Pulis had told him what a good group of players there were at the club, though they still surpassed his expectations.

"Tony Pulis is a person I know very well and he had told me they were a tremendous group of players here and are a team of fighters and that is what we need to be at this club," said Pardew. "There is tremendous technical talent here, which I think was better than I thought it would be, and I have managed to harness that to use it to the best effect of the club."

Pardew said that whilst things are going well for the club, opponents will soon learn how to deal with the main threats within the Eagles' attack, insisting that his "next challenge" would be to stop the club from becoming easy to nullify in the top flight.

"I have asked questions of this squad that haven't been asked before and they have come up with the answers," he said. "The problem is when you have success and certain players do well and get noticed other managers come up with plans to stop us, but that is the next challenge where we have to change our game plan to be ready for the next challenge.

"You need to have authority about your own ability because there are always people who are trying to put you down or knock your confidence, but I will never be a victim and always come out fighting and work hard at what I believe in which is football and good football at that.

"This summer this club will work hard to invest to make this a really stable Premier League club, it's not going to be easy because expectations will begin to rise. This football club has always been about overcoming difficult hurdles but now we are ready to fight the big clubs and from the heart of our community can establish something very special here."
