Adrian Mariappa played 90 minutes as Jamaica were beaten 2-0 by Panama on Friday night as their World Cup qualifying campaign got off to a bad start.
The Reggae Boyz were beaten thanks to goals either side of half-time as they suffered a shock defeat to the CONCACAF minnows in the fourth qualifying round.
Mariappa played the whole 90 minutes but this year's Gold Cup runners-up fell behind on 43 minutes when Armando Cooper put them ahead with a free-kick on the stroke of half-time, and after Leicester City's Wes Morgan netted an own goal seven minutes after the restart the Reggae Boyz had a mountain to climb.
They couldn't get back into the game despite plenty of late pressure, meaning they start their Group of Death with a defeat.
In the group's other game Jamaica's main rivals Costa Rica beat Haiti 1-0, with Mariappa's men now traveling to Haiti for a game on Tuesday night needing to win to get their campaign on track with two from four advancing to the final qualifying round.
