“I thought it was a terrific game, we made the decision to take the game to Liverpool and got ourselves the first goal. For 15 or 20 minutes we forgot our game plan. We needed half-time.
"We didn't score in the period early in the game, we scored right at the end of it and that was our mistake really, because we backed off at that point and for 15, 20 minutes, we let Liverpool dominate us.
"But at half-time, I thought we could win the game. That was the message and my players delivered."
"The win felt good, it was a really great game, a top, top Premier League game. As an away team, we just deserved to win. I've played in the Europa League and I thought Liverpool might be a bit sleepy. No matter what you do, with a team that has a journey like that, it's difficult.
"But our ambition was rewarded with that late goal."
Alan is pleased that the three points put his side on target with their ambitions going into the international break and can look back on a couple of good results against top sides.
“We went toe-to-toe against Manchester United and got a draw, we went toe-to-toe with Liverpool and got the win. Sometimes it is about our own belief. We have been unlucky in the last few games and the problem with this team is it doesn't trust how good it can be.
“We have started really well this year. We need to make sure we capitalise on that.”
The manager heaped praise on centre-back Dann, who he has been really impressed with having had the opportunity of seeing him first hand.
“I really think he has been underestimated throughout his career and I wouldn’t have said that until I managed him.
“Now I manage him I realise how good he is. He was superb in everything he did.”
