Sako Selected For Mali

5 November 2015

Bakary Sako has been included in Mali's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Botswana.

As well as his Palace teammates Pape Souare and Yannick Bolasie who are also on African qualification duty, Sako's side will face a two legged play-off over the course of the next fortnight to try and reach the CAF qualifying group stages for the 2018 World Cup.

The first leg will be a trip to Francistown for Mali on Saturday 14th November, for they return home to Bamako three days later where they will aim to seal their spot in the next phase of the qualification process for the tournament in Russia, having never played in a World Cup finals before.

The 27-year-old, who has previously won 16 caps for his country and has scored eight goals in that time, is the only English-based player in the squad.
