Adrian Mariappa revealed that it was a very despondent Crystal Palace dressing room at the full time whistle following their 1-0 defeat to Leicester City.
Red hot striker Jamie Vardy pounced on the one major mistake in the Eagles defence all afternoon to score the game’s only goal and condemn Mariappa’s side to defeat for the second week in a row, and the right back admitted his side were very dejected with the result.
Post-match, the Jamaican international said: “It’s a very disappointed dressing room and not too many words have been said in there. We knew coming here that it would be a very tough game because they’re a good side but to lose the game is disappointing. We had a few good chances as well so we’re gutted.
“They’re a team that likes to play on the front foot and capitalise on any mistakes you make; Vardy is extremely fast and sharp and today they punished us. It’s a little bit frustrating but we’ll have to look at things and pick it up again on Wednesday.”
Palace felt hard done by that they didn’t receive a late penalty, and with Scott Dann also seeing a header cleared off the line late on, they were worthy of a point, but it never arrived and now Mariappa admits his side have to bounce back from successive defeats, despite a daunting Capital One Cup tie at Manchester City on Wednesday.
On the penalty appeals, he added: “I didn’t have a view on either but we had a couple cleared off the line and those are the margins that you’re working at in the Premier League.
“We now go into training and continue the high standards that we’ve set. We got a cup game next against Manchester City away and go again.”
