Sako Stars In Mali Rout

12 October 2015

Several Palace stars were in action for their countries over the weekend, most notably the Welsh contingent of the red and blue army, who secured their place at EURO 2016 despite a 2-0 defeat in Bosnia.

Wayne Hennessey and Joe Ledley both featured, while Jonny Williams was an unused substitute for Chris Coleman's side. You can read more about their incredible achievement HERE.

Bakary Sako was in explosive form for Mali, which will pleased Palace fans, who have so far been impressed with the powerful winger's performances since his summer arrival on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old scored twice and provided two assists as his country, also nicknamed the Eagles, charged to a 4-1 victory in a friendly over Burkina Faso.

Elsewhere, Yohan Cabaye came on as a late substitute for France, as they beat Denmark 2-1 in an international friendly. The central midfielder had scored in the 4-0 hammering of Armenia in the game before, but only played a few minutes of Les Bleus' second game of the break, being used by Didier Deschamps to tighten up the midfield and secure the morale-boosting victory.
