After signing for Crystal Palace, Emmanuel Adebayor is aiming to enjoy his football again during his spell with the Eagles.
The experienced striker has penned a deal until the end of the season with Alan Pardew’s men, and after being unable to play professionally since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in September, he is itching to get back into the thick of Premier League action for his new club.
Moments after signing his contract, he told eagles.cpfc.co.uk: “I was born playing football in Africa so it was hard not playing. I just have to get out there and enjoy myself again.
“Whatever the team want to achieve I will follow them - I want to help them win games and that’s what I’m here for. They’re not far from the top five and that’ll be difficult to reach as there are a lot of big games to play, but let’s get out there, have fun and enjoy ourselves.
“Anyone will tell you that when I’ve had momentum I’ve always been laughing, so let me laugh and bring that into the dressing room and hopefully the team will follow and we will get on well together.”
The Eagles fought off a number of clubs to secure the Togolese hitman’s signature, and he admitted that whilst he doesn’t know much about the Eagles’ heritage just yet, he is ready to immerse himself in the history of the club off the pitch, while working with some familiar faces on it.
“Palace have been playing the football that I like and they’ve got a few players that are my friends so all of those made me want to come here,” he admitted. “I don’t know much about the club but it’s better to learn so I’ll be going on Google and finding out more about them.
“I look forward to going to training ground as I know a few players like Zaha, Bolasie and Puncheon so I’ll go there and figure out how the team is playing and adapt myself to it, but I have been around the block so that shouldn’t be hard to do.”
