Wayne Hennessey and Joe Ledley started the Group B clash with England whilst Jonathan Williams joined the action with eighteen minutes of the match remaining.
The three enjoyed the half time break more than their opponents as Gareth Bale fired home a 30 yard free-kick past Joe Hart in the closing moments of the first half.
Roy Hodgson made changes at the break and both players introduced were on hand to convert the chances that sent England top of the group.
Jamie Vardy put his side back on level terms eleven minutes into the second half in Lens and then with the game into injury time, Daniel Sturridge found his way into the box and got his shot in past Hennessey at the near post to send the England camp into wild celebration.
Midfielder Williams replaced Robson-Kanu on 72 minutes and was soon involved in an appeal for a Wales penalty but the official waved play-on and with ten minutes remaining he saw a right footed shot from outside the box go over the bar.
Ledley left the game on 67 minutes, being replaced by Edwards.
England need a draw on Monday against Slovakia to go through to the last 16 while maximum points for Chris Coleman’s side against Russia will give them a top two finish.
