Alan Pardew praised all aspects of the club following the narrow defeat against Manchester United as a terrific cup final was decided in extra time.
"I thought Crystal Palace Football Club handled themselves very well today and I thought our fans were terrific. They showed the world that when they fill any stadium they will not get outsung.
"All the players conducted themselves well and we are trying to take the defeat with dignity. We wish Man United well in the Europa League. We go home and lick our wounds."
Palace thought they had taken the lead early in the game when Connor Wickham beat off a challenge to go on and score but referee Mark Clattenburg pulled play back for a free kick, one of the decisions that left the manager pondering what might have been.
'I was really disappointed with the Connor decision in particular because you could see he was going to get up first and the advantage was really with us. To be pulled back was really harsh and I do think the Rooney tackle on Wilf was a penalty.
'“But nevertheless there was enough in the first half to show that the tactical plan to stop them getting through us, we worked really well and hard all week, worked for us. And the quick breaks, if we just had a little bit more assistance from the ref we might have done better.
“The players have given me everything today. They played with heart and passion. It was a great cup final, Manchester United did the same.
“It was even and made for an enthralling tie, a game that could have gone either way. Unfortunately for us it didn’t go our way.”
