Alan Pardew believes that Gareth Southgate giving Andros Townsend a call up to the England squad gives an indication of how the club's stature is being recongnised by those outside of SE25.
"That call up is an important one for our club. We are now in our fourth season in the Premier League and it’s the first call up to the England squad. It is about establishing a club that becomes recognised at that level. Therefore you need that recognition from international managers and we are already represented at different countries but it is good to have this one from England. Andros is a good selection to happen for both him personally and also others at the club within the squad playing well. Of course if Gareth Southgate does get the job permanently he is going to know Crystal Palace and the traditions we have very well."
The Palace boss, even during these early days of Gareth in the England hot-seat, has been impressed with the way the former club captain has taken to the role.
"Gareth is a great choice for England and I think he did a great job handling the media pressures that come with the international job and now it’s about results as we live and die by them. He has had two decent results and now goes onto the next game."
