Palace’s Andros Townsend has been called up to the England squad following the withdrawal of Raheem Sterling through injury.
Manchester City winger Sterling is ruled out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia, meaning the Eagles midfielder returns to the squad for the first time since the pre-Euro 2016 friendlies against Turkey and Australia.
Interim Three Lions manager and former Palace favourite Gareth Southgate takes charge of the national side for the first time on Saturday when Malta visit Wembley in a 5pm kick-off, before they travel to Ljubliana for the game against Slovenia on Tuesday evening, which gets underway at 7.45pm.
Townsend, who has played eight times for the Eagles since arriving from Newcastle United in the summer, is the first Palace player to be called up to the Three Lions squad since Wilfried Zaha back in November 2012.
