Alan Pardew has confirmed that Scott Dann will miss Palace's trip to Sunderland on Saturday after sustaining a hamstring strain in the EFL Cup defeat at Southampton on Wednesday night.
The Eagles skipper pulled up early in the first half at St Mary's and would have to watch from the sidelines as the home side ran out 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Charlie Austin and Jake Hesketh.
Speaking during his pre-Sunderland press conference, Pardew delivered the bad news regarding Dann, but provided some better news to soften the blow.
"Scott Dann has a slight strain in his hamstring, definitely will miss this game and possibly Everton as well," he said. "Tomkins is fit. That's why we invested heavily in him, so we could seamlessly fit him in to that centre half position, so that's worked out okay for us.
"I rested some players [against Southampton] due to the Premier League demands and with our squad we needed to make sure we got everybody up to speed. Although the result didn't go well for us, those guys will be better for it."
