Joe Ledley spoke after Saturday's game about how impressive the victory against newly promoted Middlesbrough was considering the home sides start to the season.
"It was important to get three points after we have had a slow start but it is still early days. Middlesbrough are a good team who have just been promoted and we knew they would be hard to break down but I thought we were fantastic in the first 25 minutes and had chances through the game. From a personal point of view it was good to be back in the team and to come away with the three points is great.
"After taking the lead we had further chances to go on and build on the lead so was disappointing to go in all square at half time as I thought we were the better team first half. Credit to the boys though as we came out second half and completed the job which gave us a fantastic result and we can build on it from here."
A debut goal from Christian Benteke showed the difference he can be to the team's fortunes and Ledley was pleased to see a fellow midfielder having such an impact on the game.
"It was a fantastic goal from Christian and that is what we need to do for him, deliver good quality crosses into the box and I am sure he will get on the end of them as he proved today. He has been fantatsic since he signed and hopefully he can continue and he will be key to our success this season.
"Wilf was fantastic and probably our best player on the pitch in this game and today showed what he is capable of doing. Credit to him as he works hard on the training pitch and has a fantastic season ahead of him. He is still very young and it is great for the club and our fans to have him here as part of our squad."
