U23 Report: QPR 4-1 Crystal Palace

5 September 2016

A hat-trick from Eberechi Eze saw the Eagles fall to their first defeat of the U23 Professional Development League campaign at the Hoops’ Harlington training ground.

Corie Andrews had given Palace an early advantage but a spell of three goals in 13 minutes either side of half-time saw Rangers race into a healthy lead, before Eze completed his treble with six minutes to go.

It took just seven minutes for Palace to grab the lead after some early pressure, with Andrews managing to score his third goal in three games. Despite being faced with an acute angle, the in-form striker slipped the ball past Joe Lumley to give a lively-looking Eagles the lead.

Chances were few and far between in the first half but Alex Prohouly fired over for the Hoops as they looked to get back on level terms, however it was Palace who nearly found a second goal on 23 minutes when Levi Lumeka looked to get on the scoresheet too but Jack Williams was well-placed to clear off his goalline.

Brandon Adams saw an attempt blocked by the visitors’ defence towards the end of the half, but with three minutes to go before the break he made a telling impact by cutting the ball back to Eze to fire past Kleton Perntreou and level things up at the break.

That proved vital as after the restart the Hoops managed to quickly grab control of the game by scoring twice more in quick succession. After Dan Darbyshire had been fractions away from seeing a deflected shot creep into the net, Adams netted his team’s second of the afternoon after turning in Brandon Barzely’s cross from the resulting corner, and then on 55 minutes Eze took aim from long-range and found the top corner to complete his brace in spectacular style.

Darbyshire then had an opportunity to grab a fourth but could only shoot straight at Perntreou, and with 11 minutes to go Noor Husin went close to setting up a grandstand finish but his vicious blast was pushed away by a diving Lumley.

But it was game over with six minutes remaining as Eze tucked home his hat-trick after Darbyshire had once again provided the assist.
