Alan Pardew is pleased to welcome back one of his players into his squad for Friday night’s trip to Everton but at his pre-match conference revealed a long term injury to another one.
Wilfried Zaha didn’t travel to the north-east last weekend but the manager was delighted to put him in his squad for this first game of the Premier League weekend.
“Wilfried Zaha is back in the frame after missing the game at Sunderland but we have had a serious knee injury this week to Jonathan Benteke which is going to keep out of action for around three or four months. In training his knee locked when he was doing a finishing drill and he unfortunately needs an operation. It’s a shame for him and us but the group that travelled last week will go up to Everton plus the addition of Wilf.”
This the first Friday night game in the Premier League for the club and Alan Pardew believes as a fan it’s a good night to be watching top flight football.
“As a fan a Friday night game has a lot of attractions to it but I don’t know how it will affect the match as we have not had one yet but certainly under the lights at Goodison I think it will be trickier for us than on a Saturday afternoon. I think it favours the home side a little.”.
