As April comes to a close Sam Allardyce can look back on a run that has seen only two defeats in nine games but feels that his expectation level on his squad have been over and above what they should be as Saturday’s game against Burnley will see them complete their seventh game of the month.
The manager is hoping that the football authorities will look at the scheduling of fixtures so that they are less congested and allow more recovery time for squads in the week to week challenges of football at the top level of the game.
"The Premier league need to look at the fixture scheduling, because they are putting a team at a disadvantage if you allow one team more rest time than their opponents. When it comes to games over the Christmas period or a week like this where you are playing your game in hand you end up on the wrong end of a severe disadvantage. I appreciate there are always reasons as to why they are fitted in but I think the time has come for it to be looked at.
"You look back at our game on Wednesday and wonder if we had been fresher and more on top of our game physically would we have closed Christian Eriksen down better and the outcome of the game could have been different."
