The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Crystal Palace for their vital 2-1 victory against league leaders Chelsea on Saturday 1st April 2017.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football and this week name Palace the winners for the second time since Sam Allardyce's arrival at Selhurst Park.
Allardyce was delighted to be collecting the award after his side had produced the surprise result of the weekend. "The surprises in the Premier League is what makes it so good and why everyone across the world wants to watch the games. The result showed that in our league on any given game you can overcome one of the teams at the top of the league and that is why you plan the best you can for the players to go out and give their best. If you then get the result it makes it so sweet for all involved.
"It was a great win for us and took the team to four wins on the trot and I would have to say that the confidence the lads had picked up in the previous three games certainly helped us beat Chelsea on the day."
