Two late goals for Southampton on Wednesday night condemned Palace to their first defeat under Jason Puncheon's captaincy and he was a disappointed man at ninety minutes as he believed that having held the home side through until seven minutes from time they should have taken a share of the points back with them up the M3.
"We were not at our best in this one but to still be at 1-1 with ten minutes to go we should have got something from the game but we didn’t and now must dust ourselves down and get ready for the next game against Arsenal on Monday evening."
As the results get ticked off week by week the position at the bottom of the table changes as does the total of points needed but the midfielder is not so worried about setting a figure to aim at to retain top flight supremacy but feels the squad need to have the belief that they can get on another unbeaten run.
"I don’t think we will be putting a required points target on ourselves but just have to believe what we are capable of doing and achieving. We had a great run going into this game and I know the group is well capable of producing that form again but now the important thing is to lift ourselves up again for these final eight games of the season.
"We are reliant on everyone and in this game showed the quality we have from an attacking point of view and scored a very good goal. We are going to need everyone to chip in with goals as we work hard as a team to get us to through to our target.
"We’ve produced the results at times this season when it hasn’t been expected like at Chelsea and we are going to need to do that again in the games we have left this season."
