Sporting Dinner 10th-11th May - John Motson

5 April 2017

May 2017, we look forward to hearing many a storyth and Thursday 11thOn the evening of Wednesday 10 from over 40 years in the commentary box as we welcome John Motson to Selhurst Park for our end of season Sporting Dinners. A great opportunity to enjoy an evening of first class hospitality in the company of one of the sport’s living legends.

Motson's time in the commentary box has delivered some unforgettable anecdotes. In dozens of fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, we hear about the greatest football matches he has watched and the greatest players and managers he has been privileged to know. Many of them are football icons; Bill Shankly, Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, Alf Ramsey, and Matt Busby, amongst many others.

After joining BBC Radio 2 as a sports presenter in 1968, it took John just three years to become a regular commentator on Match of The Day, and the rest as they say is history.

He has commentated across the airwaves for over 1,500 games on television and radio, including World Cups, FA Cups, and European Championships.

From his place on the TV gantry across the world he can recall many a story about the game at all levels, memories of great goals, giant killings in the cup competitions and of course with Motty the next stat is not far away.

Over 40 years at the top of his game means one thing, ‘There Is Only One Motty’
