Warner: We Can Inspire The Youngsters

12 April 2017

Foundation Chairman Ed Warner believes that the Palace For Life Foundation gives youngsters in south London a great opportunity to engage in a healthier lifestyle.

Speaking at the launch of the Foundation Warner revealed his hopes for the future as the club look to engage and work even closer with the community and use sport as a real theme to change the mindset of youngsters.

“I’d love to see this be the predominant charity in the south London area. I want the Foundation to be about giving young people in our local area the opportunity for a better chance in life. People look at what we do and think, that’s the power of Palace, that’s the power of this football club brand to do good. It’s not just about what you see on the pitch every Saturday it’s about seven days a week doing great things for the local population.

“When I speak with the staff at the Premier League about the initiatives we are undertaking they always discuss how the work we are doing as a club is absolutely critical to the work that they are doing across the country.  They look at London and the south east as areas of deprivation with much that can be done and that means there is so much this football club can do with the power of the Palace brand to take the inspirational effect of football out into the community to change the minds of young people living in this area.”

As Chairman Of British Athletics, Warner has a range of experience across all sports and is keen to use his experience to ensure its not just football that helps youngsters on the road to becoming fitter and winners in their own right in years to come.

“We want people to be active, we want young kids to get off the sofa, put down the PlayStation, get out and get moving and get healthy. If you are fit in body you are fit in mind and that’s so important. It’s a very easy thing to say but it’s true, but I think that footballers can inspire young kids to get more active and to feel good about themselves and to live healthier lifestyles.

“We’ll use all sport, football is just clearly the core of what we do, but we’ll look at basketball and all sorts of things just to get kids feeling good about themselves and engaging with the community." added Warner as he gave his hopes on what he believes can be achieved.

“I’ve seen up close what fit young people can do, they can excel, break world records, break British records, win medals and you see how great they feel in themselves and the pride that they bring to the work they do in athletics and that cascades down to young kids in athletic clubs around the country and exactly the same can be true in football and we’ve got to take the inspiration of the Palace squad, using the Palace brand.”
