Two late James McArthur goals saw Palace book their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup and the midfielder was delighted with both strikes.
“They were definitely two of the best I have scored and even though shooting isn’t really part of my game that I work on, it was nice to strike both well and get the goals.
“They were good opponents tonight and they did well, especially as they had a lot of youngsters but we limited them to a couple of chances in the first half and in the second they tired a bit which meant the game started to open up.”
The deadlock wasn’t broken until the 76th minute but McArthur recognises that breaking teams down is something that the side will need to do in order to pick up vital points over the course of a season.
“We need to find a way in every single game to break teams down and be ready to change things as and when we can and we have a manager who will do that as we saw in this game.”
These two goals followed a fine strike in the development side victory last week, a game which saw both James and Yohan Cabaye continue their efforts to get to full fitness as they push for that place in a Premier League starting eleven.
“I had a hamstring injury during the first week of pre-season and I’m still not where I want to be fitness wise but I am working hard to get there.
“All we can do is try and take our chance and play well because there are some very good midfielders already in the starting eleven."
