Sam Allardyce has insisted that defensive signings are his main focus in the January transfer window, as he looks to stop the Eagles shipping goals and add to the clean sheet tally.
"My interest at this moment in time is to strengthen the defensive areas, not the attacking areas," he said during his pre-West Ham press conference.
"Because I think when Wilfried [Zaha] comes back and Baky Sako comes back we've got very good options in that forward line. We've got Loic Remy fit again and Fraizer Campbell, so I think plenty of options [up top], particularly when the two lads from the Africa Cup of Nations returns.
"So it's not a priority for me in that area, but certainly we need to secure more defensive players to help our situation, which is having kept one clean sheet [in the Premier League] all season.
"The biggest priority for me is to make the team realise that it's imperative we stop those goals going in, either in general play or from set pieces. That's my focus on players in this window first, we may look at other areas once we've secured those players."
