The club is sad to bring the news that our former player Brian Whitehouse has passed away, aged 81, after a short illness.
Brian was one of a number of former West Bromwich Albion players that manager Dick Graham brought to Selhurst Park. Brian joined Palace from Wrexham in November 1963 and the inside forward became instrumental in turning the team from a good one into one that gained promotion back to the Second Division in April 1964 after a 40-year absence, his six goals in the final nine games helped secure vital points in the run-in.
His experience at a higher level helped the team to perform creditably back in the second tier while on two occasions being called upon to deputise for an injured Palace goalkeeper and keeping a clean sheet on both occasions. He was also played a part as the club reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in March 1965.
Brian then moved to Charlton Athletic in March 1966 after making 92 first-team appearances and scoring 17 goals and returned to Selhurst Park on occasions for reunions.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
