Jason Puncheon will lead the team out into Sunday’s midday kick-off against Hull City knowing that it is important the players treat the game like a Cup Final as the clock ticks down towards the end of the season.
Having been at the club since 2014 the midfielder can recall other games during that time where big results were needed including last season against Norwich City when Puncheon’s 68th winner sealed a crucial three points and he would settle for a repeat performance.
“This is my fourth season at the club and there have been lots of big moments similar to what is ahead of us on Sunday and it is important as players that we take the positives out of our recent good run into the game.
“It can be looked at like a Cup Final as once that game is done we only have the one left and it’s a similar scenario to our home game against Norwich City last season and I would certainly take scoring another goal like I did that day”
Prior to the Middlesbrough home match this season Puncheon spoke of the importance that the fans would play in the side getting a positive result and he believes they can play a crucial role going into this final home game of the season.
“We always know that the fans will be there for us and being our 12th man on the day this weekend can be crucial. The match has been a sell-out for some time and we all know that extra bit of support can carry you through. In recent games they have been getting in the stadium from half an hour before kick-off and really getting the atmosphere going while the lads are out there warming up. This Sunday the earlier you can get there the better and give us the great support that you always give us and that will be so important for us in this game."
