Following last weekend’s celebrations of the home victory against Chelsea the attention at Beckenham Training Ground soon turned to Saturday’s trip to Newcastle United.
Andros Townsend has now worked with Roy Hodgson at club and country and was not surprised that it was business as normal once the first session came of a week.
The manager was straight back to working with the players in preparation for their next challenge and the winger has seen the difference the extra time gives Hodgson when working with him at day to day at club level.
“Win lose or draw the training in the following week ahead is normal, whatever the result at the weekend that game has gone come Monday morning and start to focus on the next game. We have done nothing different in our preparations to last week and hopefully we will have the same result.
“At club level a manager has more time to work with the players every day and nothing is rushed whereas at international level a manager has three days to work with the players before the first game and then after the first game you are in recovery mode before the second game comes along. So it is a lot more rushed where as at club level he has more time to do what he wants with individuals or the squad on any day that he chooses.”
Last time Palace played at St James' Park a Townsend goal gave the home side a vital three points and the winger remembers the day when the home fans played their part in an important victory in 2016.
“I remember it being a must win game for Newcastle as we were struggling in the league but the side had just started to get some form but needed to keep it going. That day the fans were incredible and thankfully from a personal point of view I was the one who got the goal we needed for us to get the three points”
This week the 26 year old returns to the venue with the Eagles and is hoping for a repeat performance as the side look to build on their result last weekend.
“I am feeling good going into this game, have had another good weeks training and hopefully can reproduce the performance I had last Saturday.”
