Nya Kirby was named in the England U18s starting eleven by manager Steve Cooper for their international friendly draw against Brazil on Friday evening.
The match finished 0-0 as the youngsters prepare for the FIFA U17 World Cup after finishing as runners up in the U17 European Championships recently.
After a closely fought opening period the home side had an opportunity to break the deadlock just before the break. Angel Gomes won the side a corner but Kirby’s set piece wasn’t able to be converted.
Following a bright start to the second period by the visitors it wasn’t long before Cooper’s side were back pushing for the first goal.
Chances included one from Kirby forcing a save out of goalkeeper, Gabriel Brazao and then the Palace youngster was on the end of a ball forward from Gomes but he put his opportunity wide of the target.
The Young Lions may have had to settle for a draw after finishing the game ahead on chances but will take encouragement from their performance.
Both teams staged a practice penalty shoot-out after the draw and the home side took it 5-4.
Next up for the side is a match against South Africa at Leek Town for another friendly on Monday 4 September, before their U17 World Cup campaign gets underway in October.
