Ruben Loftus-Cheek came back into the side in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton and even though he could reflect on an encouraging performance personally it was once again a frustrating home defeat.
“We had quite a few chances but it was one of those days where chances didn’t go in although its not one of those where we are not creating opportunities because it was clear from the game that we are but we need to keep working hard and hopefully it will turn around. “
Steven Davis fifth minute finish meant that the side were soon chasing the game and Ruben couldn't hide his frustration as the side found themselves once again behind soon after the first whistle.
“In the last two games we have conceded early and that makes it an uphill battle from there and we are chasing the match which makes it harder for us. I think it’s a concentration thing which we need to look at because if the game is still level we are in a position where we are putting pressure on them."
Loftus-Cheek had to leave the field with just over twelve minutes to go but it was game time for the loanee after his absence with injury.
“I had to come off because of cramp which I expected because I have been out of the side for three and a half weeks , I wasn’t at my best physically but I am working on my fitness in training and go from there.”
The 21 year old said that apart from the obvious disappointment with the result the manager told his players that he couldn’t complain at the team’s desire in his first game taking charge at Selhurst Park.
“He said he couldn’t complain about our desire and will to win and we kept fighting which is all he can ask of us and he was pleased about that.”
