After a tough 34 games of top flight football, one of the most competitive relegation battles is close to coming to an exciting conclusion and after all their efforts it's a month ahead that Roy Hodgson believes the importance of cannot be underestimated for his squad.
He is a big admirer of what his squad have come through to get themselves in the position of going into this Saturday's match at Watford six points clear of the relegation places and hopes they can show their strengths in the final lengths of this marathon season.
"The players know they have what is necessary to stay in this league and they have the mental strength and ability to dig deep as we showed against Brighton. They are also capable of shrugging off disappointment and that can be a major factor at this stage of the season if they start getting the feeling that we are not getting ‘what we deserve’ and they have shrugged that off very well I think.
"It’s an unbelievably important month because this group of players with all the problems that have beset us, not least in terms of injury and missing our quality players for a long period of time, they’ve dragged themselves into a position where safety is within touching distance. But they also know it’s a fragile situation and the moment we lose in anyway what has got us to where we are we could be sucked back down again and then we will be hoping for the best rather than making certain we don’t need hope and we have done it through our quality and belief in ourselves."
