As with any manager in the battle for points as the games begin to run out Roy Hodgson is calling on his squad to put in the same performance level that saw them get three crucial points last week in their final four matches of the season.
The Palace side were quick out the blocks for last week's derby against Brighton and soon found themselves two ahead and saw the game out to take all the points, a result which meant a lot with the rivalry between the two sides but Hodgson is quick to point out that the game has gone and it is now onto the next encounter this weekend at Watford.
"Such an important victory because it’s an important for our fans as they regard it as the biggest of our derby matches so in that respect a fantastic win, one that gives us more hope that we can survive. But that’s all it was, one win, a great atmosphere and a job well done but it still leaves the last four games hanging in the balance, not just for us but other teams as well.
"We must make sure we put that game behind us and grateful for the win and take the three points whilst taking the same attitude into the remaining games because we still need more points," said Hodgson but does take into the final weeks of the season the confidence he has at how far the team have come in recent months.
"The team for a long period has played quite well and we’ve lifted ourselves out of the bottom three on our playing performances and if we had a little bit more luck, with a few less injuries, we could have got ourselves further away from the bottom three.
"I believe in the team and have faith in them and are more than capable of doing it but you don’t do it by talking or on paper you do it by giving another four more performances. We have to be very much aware that if we are going to survive it will be because we get more points in these last four games."
Even though he talks highly of the progress his side have made he wants to be looking back at a solid finish to the campaign and he hopes to see the unbeaten run continue at Vicarage Road this Saturday.
"We’d be proud of ourselves, rightly so. But we’re not thinking in those terms. Boring as it may sound we are very much focused on Watford as we know points are available and we are capable of getting points in all our four games and have got to make certain that nothing detracts from our thought process. If we start thinking ‘are we doing well or are we not’ we might disturb the chances of us getting results in the final games.
"Basically we need four more good performances like the ones we have been giving, even in the defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool I felt our performances were good enough to give us points in those games."
