Sørloth Relieved to Open His Eagles Account

29 August 2018

Alexander Sørloth was thrilled to get off the mark in red and blue after scoring Crystal Palace’s winner away to Swansea City.

The towering forward swept home a left-footed effort after a crisp Jairo Riedewald through-ball to net the game’s only goal in the Carabao Cup Second Round tie in south Wales.

Report: Swansea City 0-1 Crystal Palace

28 August 2018

It was a tough start for the Eagles, who were forced to be patient and find a way through a well drilled Swansea side, who looked dangerous on the break.

“I think we struggled a little bit in the first half,” he admitted to Palace TV. “We didn’t have any clear chances created and we lacked some runs in behind and stuff, but second half I think we were much better. Overall I think it was a good game and we can win more.”

Sørloth’s 70th-minute strike was his first competitively for Palace and he now has his sights set on more.

“I’m very happy,” he said. “It’s always nice to get the first goal out of the way and hopefully I can score more goals from here.

“It’s good for fitness primarily [to play 90 minutes] and to get the playing time is good for confidence. Getting a goal as well means I’m very happy.”

Southampton are next up on Saturday at Selhurst and Sørloth will have his sights set on a start after opening his account across the border.

“I’m very much looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s the last game before the international break, so hopefully we can finish this period with a win. That would be really good.”
