Reaction: Benteke Pleased With Point

30 January 2018

Christian Benteke broke the dead-lock at the London Stadium tonight, scoring his second goal of the season.

Reflecting on securing another point on the road, he said: “We didn’t have a great first half. Even though we managed to score, they came back just before half time. Second half, we tried to have more composure on the ball, but we just couldn’t find the last passes.”

Benteke was quick to praise Andros Townsend’s brilliant pin-point cross for the Belgian’s opener. “We’ve been practicing a lot this week and I know – and he [Andros] knows - where to put the ball. I was in the right place at the right time."

Benteke's trademark bullet header from the six yard box was his 25th headed goal since his Premier League debut in Aug 2012 - with only Arsenal's Olivier Giroud scoring more in this period, with 27.

He added: "I’m pleased to be on the scoresheet. The last few weeks, I’ve felt as if I’ve been close. It’s a great feeling to score again but I would prefer to get the three points.”
