Sako: Victory Is Most Important Thing

13 January 2018

Bakary Sako’s 20th minute goal was enough to give Palace victory against Burnley on Saturday afternoon and the result moved them into 12th place in the Premier League.

Palace dominated the first half with a number of chances falling to the home side but at half time only had the one goal to show for their efforts.

Captain Luka Feels Honoured

Sako was delighted after the game that the back four were able to play their part at the other end of the field, particularly knowing that in the end his goal was the only difference between the two sides.

“We think we should have won by two or three goals but we have done well to keep a clean sheet and to win the game 1-0 is the most important thing for us.

“I was one on one with the defender and was going to go on my right foot but went with the left and lucky for me it went In and was a goal for the team.

“I have just continued to give my best for the team since I have come back in; the manager has confidence in me so I am trying to do as much as I can.”

The Mali international is now the club’s leading scorer this season with six goals but is quick to praise the team effort that is involved in putting together the run of one defeat in twelve top flight games.

"Since the manager has been at the club he has mentioned that team spirit needs to be 100% all the time and we are trying to do that so we are all very pleased with the victory.

“As I said I think we should have killed the game before the end but the back four were brilliant today and I am very pleased to be leaving the game with us having the three points."
