Kirby Features In England Under-19s Win

18 July 2018

Nya Kirby made his debut for the England under-19 team as they came from behind to beat Turkey 3-2 in their opening game of the UEFA U19 European Championships.

The Palace midfielder came on in the 79th minute to win his first caps at this level, having previously represented England’s under-16s, under-17s and under-18s sides and winning the FIFA U17 World Cup last season under Paul Simpson’s management, who last week selected Kirby for the tournament in Finland as England look to retain their European crown in the annual competition.

Goals from Japhet Tanganga, Ben Brereton and Elliot Embleton saw England overcome the setback of conceding the opener, but after Turkey pulled it back to 3-2, Kirby was introduced from the bench and helped his team claim the victory, despite picking up a booking in the final minute.

Simpson’s squad will now face Ukraine in their second game on Friday, who beat France in the group’s other game, before taking on the French on Monday.
