Flanagan Features For Ireland Under-19s

22 March 2018

Development midfielder Kian Flanagan played the first of three scheduled UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying matches for the Republic of Ireland as they drew 1-1 with Slovakia on Monday.

The Eagles youngster was selected in the 20-man squad as they aim to book a place in July’s held in Finland, and headed to Portugal for three qualifiers that will determine their fate.

The first of those was against Slovakia in Braga, and Flanagan played the full 90 minutes as Ireland battled back from a goal down to clinch a draw thanks to an Aaron Connolly penalty. The Eagles man won his fourth cap at under-19 level in that game, and looks set to add to that tally over the next seven days.

The team return to action on Saturday afternoon with a game against Kosovo, who were thumped 5-0 by Portugal in their opening game. Flanagan’s team then take on the Portuguese in the final and potentially crucial qualifier on Tuesday 27th March, with only the team who top the group going through to the summer’s finals.
