Roy Hodgson may be taking his side to Huddersfield Town on the back of three defeats but he is approaching the game with a clear message to his players that belief in themselves is going to a vital ingredient as they go into the final eight matches.
Any games against top six sides are always going to bring with them some tough questions but the Palace side received plenty of plaudits for their displays and only last minute goals being conceded meant they didn’t get anything from home games against Tottenham and Manchester United.
When asked about what he takes from their performances, despite the results, Hodgson said that what those matches showed were the capabilities of his squad, which didn’t surprise him.
“I don’t know we talk too much about pride in our performances after defeats what we do talk about is where there are positives we can take despite the fact we haven’t got any points to show for our efforts. I believe the players are fully aware of what they are capable of and if they believe in themselves as much as I and the rest of my coaching staff believe in them then I don’t think they have a lot to fear going into any game.
“With our injury situation and the way things were looking on paper we should have lost those three games, but I never felt we were going to do that because I believe in this group of players and if they show the same believe then I think that bodes well for the future.”
